MY TOWEL FELL FROM THE BATHROOM DOOR KNOB THIS MORNING . . .

As I have mentioned in previous posts, due to severe eye trauma 6 or so years ago, my reduced signals to the brain via the optic nerves cause me to see recognisable objects where they don’t exist. The phenomenon is called “Pareidolia” – in which our eyes and brain try to make sense of random patterns. For example, when we see birds and human forms in the clouds. My condition means that I have an enhanced sense of Pareidolia, good or bad. But at times I think I might be going a bit nuts – as I see faces etc. too often :).

This smurf (or Disney’s Dopey?) greeted me after my towel fell off the bathroom door knob this morning. Yes, I should have a hook to hang it. But then, I would have missed out on this photo. Part of my first exhibition, called “Fragments of Vision” at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) featured photos based on serendipitous Pareidolia at the time (2011). This was a time when I was still coming to terms with my eye condition (known as NAION).
