L. to R. – Andrew (bass); Noel (drums); Me (flute & vocal); and Alan (keyboards).

My first bit of playing some live music since I arrived at the Sunshine Coast. The venue:  The Red Bridge Motor Inn. The resident band kicked off with a nice bracket of various blues standards. Love that double bass. Then announced that it was “open mic” from there on. I had been invited by a neighbour (Frank) to come along and bring my chattels: flute, blues harps and vocal chords. Once a month open mic stuff at the Red Bridge. So I did, and had a great time. Only met the other musos that night, Andrew on bass, and Noel on drums, so we were pretty apprehensive. But it seemed to go over well.

The Resident band – they didn’t say their name – but are part of the Woombye Blues Club.

Alan from the resident band helped us out on keyboards. Otherwise it would have only been just the three of us. Thanks, Alan. We did our limit of three numbers. An old Eric Burdon song “Send You Back To Walker” and an original slow blues song of mine (from way back) called “Gotta Sing The Blues” – mainly because I couldn’t remember any other lyrics. I need to get back into it. And Alan sang a number too, to make up our third song, while I got in some harp. Nice place, good atmosphere, and I had a small chicken curry that was gigantic. Would hate to try and fit in the large one (photos by Gazee – click on images to enlarge). The open mic blues night is on, every first Thursday in the month. So maybe check it out.
