IT’S TIME . . .

. . . Time I did another cartoon. Seems that my cartoon mojo has gone out the window. But here are some I prepared earlier (my faves). Watch this space for more new cartoons.

Buddha Gets Hung – at Kunara Organic Cafe Forest Glen (Australia)

My feeling is that  utilitarian venues will be the future art galleries. Well, nothing new I guess. The Impressionists were doing it long ago in Paris: hanging their works in cafes and the like. And here is my contribution (the Buddha at top of the wall). It is actually called “River of Calm,” now. But my original title for it was “Nature Buddha.” Take your pick.

I would love to do another solo exhibition one day, at an art gallery. But, that means a lot of work and stress, despite all its rewards. More likely, I would do a collaborative exhibition with a group of other artists. That takes the pressure off. Until then, I’ll  place the odd painting in cafes and the like.

By the way, I receive no payment for any of my Art Blog here. I am showing the Kunara café, only as a matter of interest (and to help flog my painting of course). So this is not an ad for Kunara.  On that topic, “River of Calm” is available for sale at the café (acrylics & mixed media on canvas, $325).

To get to Kunara Organic Café), take exit 200 on the Bruce Highway to the little village of Forest Glen (Queensland, near Buderim). It’s well worth a look, and a coffee or lunch.

NOTICE ON RECENT “BLOG TRAFFIC” GLITCH ON THIS SITE

A Message from the Minister of Art Bloggedness.

After a technical glitch in my “Blog Traffic” indicator (see Statistics – at right of page), it is all sorted. Except that now, the stats have started from day 1 again (yesterday), unfortunately. This is despite this site having been online for just over 4 years. So to the viewer, it appears that there are only a small number of page views for the month or year. Not so. This site clocks about 20,000 page views per month. Yesterday’s page view tally was 611 viewed.
Thus endeth the sermon.

Portrait of Me by U3A “student” Richard.

I have just completed two terms tutoring at U3A on the Sunshine Coast (Australia). My course was entitled “Painting for Therapy & Well-Being.”

Originally I wanted to call it, “Painting for People Who think They Can’t Paint.” I should have gone with that,  because the chosen  title  evidently put some people off. Someone told me that they decided not to enrol because they felt they didn’t qualify:  they were sane, and therefore didn’t need therapy.

Perhaps  they were right.  But that said, I think some degree of ‘insanity’ is maybe a prerequisite to do art anyway. Some may suggest it has helped me over the years, at least.

But, to get to the obvious here: This image. On one of the weekly classes, all students were assigned to paint a portrait of someone in the class. The rules were 1. Non- realism; 2. Done quickly; 3. Try to capture something of the ‘essence’ of the person. I think Richard (an architect by trade) nailed it. He completed the coloured part of this painting in about 10 minutes if I remember correctly. Then added the cartoon work at home, based on some of my posts on this Art Blog. It made my day.
