The Title is a line from The Beatles’ John Lennon song I’m Only Sleeping. The Volcano to me once suggested fear. I had a nightmare about a volcano growing in my backyard many years ago. A week later, I was losing my sight, due to a mini-stroke on both my optic nerves. I ended up losing all but 10% of my vision. My feeling was that my brain knew of the rupture in my optic nerves at the time, and interpreted it as an explosive dream.
That was some 12 years ago. I still have the same vision of that time, basically, almost legally blind. But painting this Volcano was a new insight for me. I have long come to terms with my vision (ironically, it is like an Impressionistic painting, what I see). And I count my blessings that I can still see enough to do my art & photography. So, a volcano to me now symbolises Peace, and Tranquility, but with Imminent Power. Power and Peacefulness.
