This is a tighter cropping from my previous version of this photo. It breaks an unwritten “rule” of Art photography in which the human subject usually doesn’t look into the lens. But to me, it works in this case. Hence my title The Matriarch. Lexie has a look of authority and inner strength, which presents a hidden narrative. The look into the lens includes the viewer into that narrative. Instead of the viewer merely being an observer, looking in.
I entered this shot in a local major art exhibition. Lexie has done quite a few photoshoots for me over the years, is a great model. She also does life modelling (with a drawing class), when the opportunity arises.
