As I learned a long time ago in Horticulture studies (Diploma), transpiration is basically, the breathing out of plants. Water vapour emanates from the leaves. This is the first time I had ever seen it for myself.

So I set up the tripod & fitted the zoom lens and got this shot from my verandah. This was near Buderim (Australia) where I once lived. This is why, when we bulldoze trees worldwide, floods are more likely. Trees send the groundwater into the atmosphere, rather than into our homes. Chop. Bulldoze. At our own peril.

Life Photography Model, Catherine. She was 50 at the time, a celebration of the older woman. I prefer to photograph models about age 48 to 70 plus. Why not? When I used to do Life Drawing in Buderim, where young models from Brisbane were often hired, I found it a tad boring. The older woman to me has more presence, of all shapes and sizes. Society pretends that it addresses this idea, but it doesn’t. It is still obsessed with making older women look young, with filters, plastic surgery & the like (yawn). Why not embrace Time and how beauty changes into different forms.

I have a book called Painting People, by Lucien Freud. It is mainly of nudes, male and female of all adult ages. It inspires me to disregard the glam flak that dominates today. The book features everyday people. They all carry their own beauty and dignity, whatever age, whatever shape, whatever gender. I stick to this idea like glue, despite the incessant pressure of Society’s so-called norms.

A great night out each fortnight, Bundaberg Australia. Wine (red or white), pizza at half time, & the luxury of drawing a model like Debra. And all for just $15. This regular class was “untutored Life Drawing,” where you turn up with your art gear, and just draw in your own style. Everyone is supportive, & no-one sees your artwork. So, experts or beginners, it doesn’t matter. A good social night and the enjoyment of doing art.
