EXHIBITION: “DENNIS MEALOR – A RETROSPECTIVE – AGE 6 TO 62”

AT THE MONCRIEFF THEATRE, BUNDABERG – THIS WED 18TH FEB 2015, 6PM.

???????????????????????????????

Whew, finally finished the set-up. Now for opening night.

I thought this “retrospective” thing would be a hoot – that is, not much work for the lazy artist in me – but no. I was wrong. No new artworks to produce, I thought.  Well yes, too easy there. But plenty more work in other ways, dammit. Like, cleaning and fixing old frames – new D hooks for hanging – and loads of typing  out the didactics and Artist’s Statement, my gawd. Was up until 1pm last night, just typing. Oh yes, and at 2pm Bundaberg copped a small earthquake. My unit rocked and swayed for 30 seconds. The epicentre was inland, at Eidsvold – and was felt from Brisbane to Rockhampton. Spooky, seeing one’s house distort back and forth. Lucky she is an old Queenslander and very flexible. Tough  as old boots. So all good.

Anyway – now I am all done preparing for my exhibition, and ready for Wednesday night. Should be a good night. I managed to get the reasonably famous Dylan Davies to do some promotion on Facebook for me (see flyer here).  He  charged me ???????????????????????????????ten bucks for this crappy piece of work.  I wanted to get some street cred to impress the youth market, so I put up with him, and his pretty low-qual advertising style. Could have done it myself really. Anyway, he should be there on opening night, and bring some of his annoying  groovy cohorts, so it will ad some extra numbers to the crowd. I hope they behave (well more than the rest of us on the wine anyway).

So all are invited this Wednesday, will be a great night – see you there, folks. If you can’t make it – ‘coz you live in Perth or America or somewhere not Orstralia – well no worries. I will post some photos and a story on it all later this week. Ciao one and all. Dennis.

Set-up complete. Time for a sit down (well, posed of course). On the wall: “Orphan” – painted Age 17 (1969) & half of “Golden Buddha” – 2014.

At The Moncrieff – my “Mirror Heads” painting (2010). This was the first painting I did after Visual Impairment (90% lost in each eye). Was wonderful to discover that I could still see enough to paint.
