This was part of my 2011 “Fragments of Vision” exhibition at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery (BRAG). It looks contrived, but no. I was painting, and squeezed out the red onto the palette, then noticed the face when I looked down at it. Serendipity always does it better. I then set it up on the dark towel for the pic.
