ANZAC DAY – Lest We Forget
the millions of lives lost or destroyed by the tragedy and futility of all wars.
WAR.
(A poem by Dennis Mealor (c) 2020):
I think upon an Anzac Day
Of children playing
Soldier play.
Of plastic guns and lying still
When you get shot,
When you get killed.
And staying down for the count of ten,
Then getting up and killed again.
And killed a thousand times or more.
Get used to it,
Here comes a war.

Can’t believe it is nearly 10 years since since my exhibition at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery (BRAG). The exhibition was Fragments of Vision (2011), a cathartic “coming out” after experiencing severe vision loss due to strokes on both my optic nerves. This painting is “MRI Tomb” – acrylics & mixed media on canvas (two panels). My eye trauma was the condition NAION. Luckily my vision loss stabilised, and today I can still see the world, and still paint, albeit with 90% less sight. But I value my little bit of vision more than I did when it was normal. We don’t know what we’ve got until it’s gone. Happy Days.

This painting (by me) was featured as part of a group art exhibition “Just Nudes” in 2014 by The Brag Trade art group that I was a member of. The exhibition was at Dirty Linen Art Space, Bundaberg, Q. Australia.

5 minute Sketch in my usual cartoon style.
All life drawing at the local studio stopped of course, because of that C word taking over the World. So bring it on home, and ask a neighbour too. This is a 5 minute sketch of a nearby neighbour, Sarah, who had never modelled before. She was already a friend of ours, so starting a small life “group” of three was staying within the rules of only one visitor. Great to draw, wonderful curves, I hope she decides to give it a go with the life class in town, when all this is over. Stay safe everyone.
